Hot on the heels of last month’s tree planting for the Kaipataki Project, community planting day round two took place on Saturday. Unlike last month though, this planting day was wet, wet, wet, made it a lot easier to dig holes though! Was still a great turn out, and after the gathered group dug 800 holes and filled them with native New Zealand trees, we huddled around a BBQ and filled our hungry tummy’s.

We’re on the look out for more opportunities to volunteer, so if you’ve got something you need help with, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

A few of us wurld’ers joined with dozens of others to plant trees at a local planting day, organised by the brilliant team at Kaipatiki Project. Together we planted 800 trees and then ate our way through sausages, salad and soup, perfect!

Why not find a local planting day near you…?

Our Day 5 event for March had an early hiccup, there was some miscommunication with the Beachhaven Parent Centre around start times for their yard clean up in preparation for their big opening. We were only able to help out for about 30 minutes, and we just weren’t happy with this as it wasn’t really helping enough!

So we organised to do some collecting for Plunket later in the month for their annual appeal down at the local mall here in Birkenhead. Who wouldn’t want to give money to this friendly wurld director!

Today is Feb 5th, the 5th of the month means we do something in our community, small or large, we just do something, so wurld headed down to a local blood drive in Glenfield. This is something most of us can do, take an hour out of your day and help save up to 3 lives every time you give blood.

Visit the NZ Blood Service to see where the permanent donation centres are located or where the few mobile ones are going to be, there’s no hiding!

wurld advises that it has stuffed up. The January Day 5 event has been cancelled for various reasons, a major one being that as it is the holiday season in NZ, not a lot is happening! Our vision is to work in with existing charities and organisations that require some man power, and at this time of year getting hold of any one is difficult.

We’ll do our best to make a better job of this in the future. This time we just couldn’t make it work…

Well we planned our first ‘day 5′ event to be a beach clean up at Long Bay reserve on Auckland’s North Shore, on January the 5th, 2010.

But we’ve recently been advised by the Ranger that we wont be able to do this officially any longer. They say the beach is too busy at this time for groups to turn up for this sort of thing, so we’ve agreed to shelve the beach clean up for a later date in the summer.

So….we’re putting our thinking caps on for what to do instead, you’re welcome to do the same and suggest something for the 5th of January. We’ll update in the next few days what’s going to be happening…

To kick off, our first ‘day 5′ event will be a beach clean up at Long Bay reserve on Auckland’s North Shore, on January the 5th, 2010.

This is holiday time in NZ, and so wanted to link in with the theme of summer. We’ll provide the water, you provide a couple of hours of your time and together we’ll keep one of Auckland’s beach gems looking great.

We”ll update details closer to the time, so check back, or sign up to our newsletter or follow us and we’ll contact you.
