This Easter weekend, wurld water is being sold at the Reflections on Easter event at the Rawene Centre. This free event uses art and contemporary media to follow the dramatic events in the life of Jesus over that first Easter week.

There’s a cafe on site, and that’s also where you’ll find wurld water! For more details see the flyer below and here’s the Facebook event too.

Reflections on Easter

We at wurld wanted to recognise World Water Day, the 22nd of March every year. We decided to organise a march, something that allowed us to walk in the shoes of those who have to collect their water every day, and walk many kilometres to do so. This work is usually carried out by women and children, those least able to handle the heavy loads carried. Could we do it, only one way to find out, fill our vessels and start walking!

Why did we do this? We wanted to visually raise awareness of the issue, and it was important to us to march somewhere local to us, where we live and play. The where was harder, wanted to link it to fresh water even though we are surrounded by salty seas here in Auckland. And it would be great if it was also fresh water that you probably wouldn’t drink. After a good hard think we discovered Lake Pupuke was just perfect! Even better it was a 6m walk around it, about the same as the average distance a villager in Africa walks every day for their water.

So on Saturday the 20th we marched the 6km around Lake Pupuke with different sized vessels full of water, all sorts were on show, milk bottles, jerry cans, buckets! Click the play button on the slide show above to get a flavour of the march. (You can make it full screen by clicking the four arrows on the bottom right of the slide show).

We’re going to make this an annual event, so mark Saturday, 19th March 2011, in your diaries now!

Join us on 20 March 2010.

It’s World Water Day on 22 March, so we are walking to raise awareness for the millions of people in the developing world who walk many kilometres everyday to collect clean water.

Come join us, bring your family and a container to carry your water, as we do our lap round Lake Pupuke. Plus, stay for a BYO picnic, too.

Meet 10.30am at Sylvan Park on Lake Pupuke.

And here’s the Facebook event to pass round there too!

Think you can carry a jerry can full of water for 6kms? That’s just life for many people in the world, as 1 in 6 don’t have access to clean water…So, we’re walking to raise awareness of their plight, and we’d love you to join us!

It’s our first annual ‘wurld water walk’ on Sat 20th March at 10.30am. It’s our way of supporting the United Nation’s annual World Water Day on 22 March.

We’re meeting at Sylvan Park, Lake Pupuke and walking around the lake carrying water. So bring your friends, family, and of course a vessel for your water… (a jerry can, 2L milk bottle, a saucepan…..the heaviest thing you can carry!). We’ll fill them up from the lake and carry them on heads and shoulders all the way round, to show us and others just what it’s like.

Plus, after the walk you can join us for a BYO picnic… and of course, you’ll be able to buy wurld water to support the cause – see you there!

And if you’re in to RSVP’ing, here’s the Facebook event, don’t forget to share it with your friends too!
